Year 4

Welcome to Year 4. Children here are taught by Mrs Longden in 4SL and Miss Cariga in 4NC assisted by Mrs Savage, Ms Glover, Ms Blanco-Rivas, Ms Begum and Ms Munday.

In year 4 we build on our learning from year 3 and start to become much more independent learners. We like to take our learning out of the classroom wherever possible to make use of our school grounds as well as trips in the local area.

In maths we are working on developing our confidence with the four operations and consolidating all of our times tables. We use lots of pictorial representations to secure our understanding.

In English we really start to develop our understanding of grammar and analyse texts in depth to see how the writer has created different effects and then try to use these in our own work.

Children will soon be tested on their times tables by the national times table check. This will be an online test which will be administered in school and results will be reported to you in your child’s end of year report.

How to Help at Home

Home Learning

  • Hear your child read as often as you can. Ask them about the book to check their understanding of the story and new words.
  • Practise your times tables and number bonds.
  • Complete your weekly homework task and encourage children to present this neatly – this will help with handwriting too.
  • Make use of TTRockstars as much as possible – this is a fun and interactive way for children to practise essential skills.
