Year 5

Welcome to Year 5. Children here are taught by Mr Moylan in 5A assisted by Mrs Lish and Miss Shipton (Mon-Wed) and Mrs York (Thur-Fri) in 5B assisted by Mrs Blythe.

In year 5 we build on our learning from year 4 and start to become much more independent learners. We make use of technology to research and present our findings.

In maths we are refining our use of the four operations and applying our knowledge to problem solve and reason.

In English we start to draw together all of our learning to create much longer and more detailed pieces of writing. We like to find real purposes for our writing such as writing to our headteacher, our local MP or even the Queen.

Home Learning

  • Hear your child read as often as you can. Ask them about the book to check their understanding of the story and new words.
  • Practise your times tables and number bonds.
  • Complete your weekly homework task and encourage children to present this neatly – this will help with handwriting too.
  • Make use of Reading Eggs and Mathletics as much as possible – this is a fun and interactive way for children to practise essential skills.
