At our school, we believe that excellent attendance gives children the very best opportunity to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. Every day in school matters, and regular attendance helps children build confidence, develop friendships, establish positive routines and make the most of all the learning and enrichment opportunities available to them.
We understand that there can sometimes be challenges that affect attendance. We are committed to working closely with families to identify and remove any barriers that may be preventing children from attending school regularly. If you are experiencing difficulties that may impact your child's attendance, please speak to us as early as possible. Together, we can find the right support to help your child attend and succeed.
Reporting an Absence
If your child is unwell and unable to attend school, please contact the school office before 9:00am on the first day of absence and provide the following information:
- Your child's name
- Class
- Reason for absence
If your child has a medical, dental or other healthcare appointment during the school day, please inform the office in advance and, where possible, provide a copy of the appointment confirmation. We encourage appointments to be arranged outside of school hours whenever possible to minimise disruption to learning.
Arriving on Time
Being on time is an important part of good attendance. Arriving punctually helps children start the day calmly, settle quickly into learning, and ensures they do not miss important teaching and morning routines.
Classrooms open at 8:45am and all children should be in class ready to learn by 8:55am. If your child arrives after this time, please bring them to the school office to be signed in.
Leave of Absence During Term Time
We ask parents and carers to avoid booking holidays during term time wherever possible, as even a short period of absence can have an impact on a child's learning and progress.
If there are exceptional circumstances that mean you need to request a leave of absence, please complete a Leave of Absence Request Form and return it to the school office in advance. Each request will be considered in accordance with current government guidance.
Please be aware that schools are unable to authorise most holidays taken during term time. Unauthorised absences may result in a Penalty Notice being issued by West Northamptonshire Council.
